Privacy policy

Last updated 5 November 2026. This policy explains what data MOMIC collects, what it is used for, how long it is kept and what rights you have, under Vietnam's Law on Personal Data Protection No. 91/2025/QH15.

This is an English translation provided for convenience. If it differs from the Vietnamese version, the Vietnamese version prevails.

1. Who is responsible

The controller and processor of your data is BAT Ai (Công ty Cổ phần Tập đoàn BAT AI), Floor 2, Eco Lakeview, 32 Đại Từ, Định Công Ward, Hanoi, Vietnam. Send any request about your personal data through the form on our contact page.

2. Data we collect

When you fill in a sign-up or partnership form

  • Your name, email address, phone number (if given), organisation (if given), what you want to learn and any note you write.
  • The page you sent the form from and how you found us (for example, a campaign code in the link).
  • Your IP address, used only temporarily to block mass submissions (a few per day at most).

When you practise in the MOMIC town

  • A random learner ID created by your browser, your display name, the character you chose and the interface language you selected. You don't need a phone number or email to practise.
  • Your voice, only when you tap the mic. The audio is sent to a speech recognition service (Whisper on Cloudflare's infrastructure, or BAT Ai's servers in Vietnam) to be turned into text, then discarded. We do not keep voice recordings.
  • Text conversations with tutors and AI characters are sent to a language model to generate replies and corrections. The models run on Cloudflare's infrastructure or BAT Ai's servers; when enabled, Google or Anthropic services may also be used, under their data processing terms.
  • Your learning profile: estimated level, common mistakes, the goals you mention, feedback for each session (including sentences you got wrong and their corrections), speaking time and reward coins. It is used so you can review your progress and so your tutor can plan suitable lessons.
  • Your notebook and progress are stored on your device. If you use a 6-digit pairing code to continue on another device, a copy is stored on our server under your learner ID.
  • Talking with real people: voice travels directly between devices (WebRTC); the server only relays connection signals between people who have agreed to talk and records nothing. Messages in the town square are kept for 3 days; private messages between friends for up to 120 days.
  • Anonymous usage statistics: number of turns, minutes spoken, where people drop off and technical errors, linked to a random browser ID. They contain no names and nothing you said.
  • Study reminders: only if you allow notifications; we store the notification address issued by your browser and your reminder time.
  • Feedback and abuse reports you send, with basic device information so we can handle them.

On this website

The website sets no advertising cookies while no measurement tools are configured. If we turn on Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or TikTok Pixel to measure advertising, those tools may set cookies under their own policies; the list of tools in use will be kept up to date here.

3. What we use it for

  • Running your lessons: speech recognition, replies, corrections, feedback and study plans.
  • Getting back to you when you leave your details.
  • Keeping the community safe: handling reports and blocking people who break the rules.
  • Improving the product with anonymous statistics.

We do not sell personal data and we never pass your contact details to anyone else for advertising.

4. Transfers outside Vietnam

Cloudflare's infrastructure and some AI services process data on servers outside Vietnam. We send only what is needed (audio to turn into text, text to generate replies) and use BAT Ai's servers in Vietnam where possible. The children's edition uses only BAT Ai's servers.

5. How long we keep data

  • Sign-up details: until you ask us to delete them, or at most 24 months after our last contact.
  • Learning profile and feedback: while you keep studying; you can ask us to delete them at any time.
  • Anonymous statistics: at most 24 months.

6. Your rights

You have the right to be informed, to give or withdraw consent, and to access, correct, delete, restrict and object to the processing of your data. Send your request through the form on our contact page; we reply within the time limits set by law. Data stored only on your device (notebook, progress) can be deleted by clearing this site's data in your browser.

7. Children

The main edition is not meant for children under 16 to use on their own. Children use Mở Mic Nhí (currently in Vietnamese only): no account, no chatting with strangers, progress stored on the device, a child's voice sent only to BAT Ai's servers for recognition and then discarded, a parent gate and daily time limits. Parents can ask us to delete all related data.

8. Security

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS, encrypted WebRTC), the server only relays voice signals between people who agreed to connect, and access to the sign-up list is protected by a private key. If a data breach occurs, we will notify the competent authority and the people affected as required by law.

9. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes too; important changes are announced in the app.
